Our research activities benefit from the interplay between theory and application, and fall into two types:

• Fundamental advances in the area of optimization theory, algorithms, and software.
• Comprehensive solutions to important and fundamental problems involving biological, chemical, and engineering systems.

Our main research results have included:

• Global optimization algorithms and the BARON software. This work has won the 2004 INFORMS Computing Society Prize and the 2006 Beale-Orchard-Hays Prize from the Mathematical Programming Society.
• Novel algorithms for informatics problems in biology, chemistry, and medicine.
• The first analytical investigations in process synthesis and operations.
